The Flame in the Flood developer The Molasses Flood revealed their next upcoming game, Drake Hollow. Drake Hollow was revealed in a weekend-long preview with the Xbox Insider program that concludes on June 22 of this year. The Flame in the Flood was a roguelike survival adventure game, Drake Hollow will not be staying within the same genre and instead will be a cooperative action village-building game. Drake Hollow is set in the world of “The Hollow” which is meant to be a blight mirror of our world. The player is tasked with building and protecting a village that is home to a native fauna called Drakes. Despite the commonly associated mythology with the word drake, Drakes in Drake Hollow are not oversized lizards with magical abilities. Drakes in this game are sentient and mobile vegetables.
Drakes require the player to build the needed infrastructure to feed, hydrate, and shelter them. Drakes also need to be entertained as extreme boredom is lethal to this species. Drakes are not the only fauna native to The Hollow, the hostile species, “Feral” will periodically attack the player’s settlement and will need to be repealed. The world space will be procedurally generated and a crow will help guide the player with exploring the aether-swept islands and collect vital resources needed to keep the villages in working order.
Drake Hollow draws heavily from the combat and exploration mechanics of The Flame in the Flood. Drake Hollow features the same low-poly and colorful art style that set The Flame in the Flood apart from other indie games. Drake Hollow can be played either solo or up to four players. The game will be releasing out on July 17 of this year as an Xbox exclusive for consoles. The game is available on Steam and Windows as well.
