Since the release of the Switch 2, Nintendo has been porting many games previously seen on PC and more powerful consoles onto their new system. To carry on this trend, on September 9th, Nintendo revealed that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO was coming to their Switch consoles on November 14th.
The Dragon Ball series has been responsible for many fighting games over the years, the most recently successful of which being Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO. The game immediately captured the attention of fans of the franchise, reaching widespread appeal for a short time after its release. The game’s immediate success did not carry on forever, but placing it on Nintendo consoles proves that it has not been completely forgotten. This expansion of the game’s availability a year after its release may be exactly what the game needs to regain some of the hype surrounding its launch.
In the system trailer put out by Nintendo, they showed more information to pique players’ interests. The first of these was the game’s ability to be played on the original Switch. The console itself is not only old, but also less powerful than systems that the game is not available on, such as the PS4 or Xbox One. While some have shown concern about the game’s performance as a result of this, most players are pleasantly surprised the game made it to Switch at all. Another point of interest for fans were the motion controls available for the game. Older fighting games such as the Dragon Ball games for the Wii created memories for many players that they look forward to revisiting.
As the Switch 2 ages, it is clear that more and more games are going to make their way onto the console to make use of its unique qualities. In the case of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, opinions on the port are mixed for now. The discourse will have some closure when the game releases on November 14th.
