As evidenced in its E3 2017 Trailer, Dragon Ball Fighterz has animation that, when compared to other fighting games at this year’s E3 like Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, seems over the top. However, fans of the anime are already praising the game’s dynamic visual style for its faithfulness to the source material.
After watching the game’s E3 trailer, I was nervous that Dragon Ball FighterZ would be too visually cluttered and confusing to be enjoyable. However, after getting my hands on a demo of the game at Bandai Namco’s booth, I found that the game felt great, with intuitive controls and action that is not difficult to keep track of.
Fans of both the Dragon Ball anime and of fighting games in general are already singing the praises of the new game online, cherishing the game’s style for being as wonderfully absurd as it is.
In addition to its flashy combat, Dragon Ball FighterZ will feature 3v3 clash battles, in which the player can tag in any of their squad members to either lend momentary assistance in battle, or switch in entirely to take over in the ongoing fight. Players can charge up their power meter while fighting, allowing them to pull off powerful team abilities, or, at max power, a positively ridiculous “level 5 super” that absolutely decimates the opponent:
Dragon Ball FigherZ will be commercially available in 2018, with a closed beta scheduled to begin by the end of this summer.
