Emily Greer was the CEO and co-founder of Kongregate which is a gaming portal along with her brother Jim Greer. In 2019 she stepped down from her role at Kongregate and she and Shelby Moledina would build Double Loop Games. Double Loop Games is a mobile game studio that was started in 2020. According to Game Developer, In 2020 and 2021 Double Loop Games accumulated about $10.5 million “across two investment rounds.” According to the CEO of Double Loop Games Emily Greer, the reason that they are closing down is because “The funding and marketing environment for mobile games” has been “very hostile.”
Unfortunately, like many other small studios in 2023, we struggled to break through in a very hostile funding and marketing environment, particularly for mobile games. In November we received an offer from Scopely to bring on most of the team to work on a new project within their casual GSN studio, and decided to accept.
Even though they accepted an offer from Scopely, unfortunately not all of their “members were included” because those particular roles were “already filled.” Scopely is a mobile game developer and publisher that has developed and published games such as Bingo Bash, MONOPOLY GO!, Yahtzee® With Buddies and so much more. Co-CEOs Emily Greer and Shelby Moledina will “both be taking some extended time off”. Emily will be going on a “trip to Australia and New Zealand” while Shelby will be “writing and directing a short film”. Emily also thanked “family, friends, team members, investors, and business partners who supported and believed in them.”
