Doorways: The Underworld, Saibot Studios’ third entry in their Doorways series of horror games, will be released on PC, Mac, and Linux on September 17.
Doorways: The Underworld is the long-awaited third installment in Saibot Studios’ Doorways series, part of the resurgence of the horror genre of games among Indie studios.
Doorways: The Underworld is a standalone sequel to the previous two games in the series. Continue your adventure as paranormal investigator Thomas Foster as you begin your search for the third of four psychopaths you have been tasked with locating. This time around, your target is The Surgeon, and your task is made that much more difficult by your own deteriorating mental health. With your memories, and sanity, shattered, can you cope with the horrors around you and survive to complete your mission? Or will you be consumed by the madness, and become one of the horrors yourself?
The Doorways games are Saibot Studios’ flagship series, and have received mixed praise in the past from critics and players alike. While the series’ visual presentation and technical elements have often been called quite outstanding for an indie release, many players have felt somewhat underwhelmed by the previous titles’ marketing as survival horror. With gameplay elements more reminiscent of adventure games, players felt that while the horror elements were accurate there was little in the way of survival gameplay to be had. This is a criticism Siabot Studios have taken into account with Doorways: The Underworld, and the team has emphasized in the game’s marketing the adventure and exploration elements this time around.
Doorways: The Underworld was originally intended for an August 2014 release, but due to engine issues the team was forced to push back the game’s premier until September 17, 2014, when it will be made available on PC, Mac, and Linux. For players with access to the hardware, the game will even support the Oculus Rift straight out of the gate.
