Depending on who you ask, Bethesda saved the best for last at their E3 conference this year. Doom Eternal ended the conference showcase with a bang, three more explosions, and a lot of blood. Doom is officially taking the bloodbath on the inter-dimensional road, allowing players to assume the role of the “Doomslayer, the strongest, fastest demon-killer in existence,” killing demons on Earth, Heaven, Hell, and even the Sentinel Home-world.
The Doom Eternal showcase was presented by Hugo Martin, the game’s Creative Director and Marty Stratton, the Executive Producer. The pair were excited to hype the game, promising engaging levels and enemies throughout the entire campaign. From the game-play footage shown, we got just a glimpse of what’s to come. Players will traverse massive worlds swarming with every kind of nightmare-fuel demon imaginable.
The game promises game-play where “every enemy is different, every weapon has a purpose, and every decision you make really counts.” In addition to what looks to be a brutal campaign, a new mode, called Battlemode, brings a fresh spin on multiplayer to the series. In the mode, “two player-controlled demons take on one fully-loaded Slayer in a fight to the death.” The mode is billed as strategy versus skill, with each side using all the weapons at their disposal to defeat the other. Each demon will have varied play-styles, with “unique movement, attacks, and abilities.” Some demons will even be able to summon minions to fight alongside them, making it that much more difficult for the Slayer.
Doom Eternal is slated for release on November 22 for Xbox One, PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. More details of the game, as well as the brand new Battlemode, will be revealed at QuakeCon (renamed “DoomCon”) in July. You can also check out the E3 Doom presentation below.
