Klei Entertainment, behind the roguelike action-adventure survival game, Don’t Starve has recently uploaded a prototype teaser trailer, giving a look at the upcoming multiplayer mode, Don’t Starve Together. Don’t Starve currently is on PlayStation 4, Mac, Linux, Windows, and with news from last month that their will be a port for PlayStation Vita in the coming months.
Don’t Starve received a large expansion DLC, which went by the name of “Reign of Giants”, and it brought more features and elements to the game. Though little detail is given for the multiplayer mode, but we might get to see a PAX Build for PAX happening next month on August 29 – September 1st at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA.
The developers are hoping to have up to four players on the same screen in the multiplayer mode, with every player being there for one another in order to survive, calling this support system, “Surviving Together.”
If you are not familiar with the Don’t Starve characters, you will be able to play as “the scientist” Wilson, “the firestarter” Willow, “the strongman” Wolfgang, “the bereaved” Wendy, “the soulless automaton” WX-78, “the librarian” Wickerbottom, “the lumberjack” Woodie, “the silent” Wes, and “the puppet master” Maxwell. All characters have specific features that either help you during gameplay, or might not, for example “the silent” West has a hard time staying alive and “the soulless automaton” WX-78 would have a hard time when it rains, because it would become damaged.
You can watch the early gameplay footage in the prototype teaser trailer, below:
As you saw in the prototype trailer above, what usually would be an end to the game if you are alone and die, but with multiplayer mode, the death system has been changed to a spirit system, that allows for the player to come back to life through someone else’s body. While you or your friends are in spirit mode as a ghost, there is a feature that allows you to haunt inanimate objects and play little pranks on the living. You will also be able to use the chat feature to talk between players. Unknown of what the multiplayer mode would include player wise, whether it be private local games or a drop-in drop-out style.
You and friends will be able to survive and work together in the multiplayer mode, coming later this Summer.
