All the way back in June, AMD announced that they would be partnering with Bethesda to bring FSR to Starfield as their exclusive partner. Many wondered if Nvidia’s DLSS, the equivalent to AMD’s FSR. Just a few days before the early access launch, AMD’s boss confirmed that it’s all up to Bethesda.
This information comes from a Dexerto article, who reports that AMD’s Gaming Chief, Frank Azor stated that Nvidia’s DLSS can come to Starfield, it’s just up to Bethesda to ask for it. This means that when the game was still being developed, DLSS was not a priority since Bethesda was working alongside AMD to release Starfield, but the popular frame-generating feature can still be added in an update. That’s if before modders can get to it first.
Dexerto goes on and quotes The Verge, who spoke with Azor about the future implementation of DLSS. Anzor said, “If they (Bethesda) want to do DLSS, they have AMD’s full support.” He couldn’t tell The Verge outright the details of the contract between AMD and Bethesda, since that would be a breach of contract, he did tell them that AMD requested Bethesda to prioritize FSR.
Azor goes on to say, “If they ask us for DLSS support, we always tell them yes,” and later repeats what he said before, saying that Bethesda has AMD’s full support if they ask to add DLSS.
It’s great to hear that AMD is open to including DLSS into Starfield. It was a concern for many gamers when AMD announced that FSR would be the only frame-generating feature for Starfield, basically excluding Nvidia users. Many called the move “anti-consumer.”
Although AMD is on board with the addition of DLSS, it remains unclear if and when Bethesda will add DLSS, and as it looks, Starfield will launch with FSR 2 only, and not the new FSR 3 that AMD revealed Friday.
