It looks like Square Enix is ready to move on from Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. The company has announced during a livestream that the game will be receiving one more major update on February 20 for Arcades, and in March 5 for the PlayStation 4 and PC. After that, there will be no more updates, and Square Enix will no longer support the title.

Despite the company no longer keeping the game up to date, the servers will remain online, allowing players to battle each other in multiplayer. In addition, Square Enix has also states that there are currently no plans for a sequel to NT, leaving the franchises future in question. While it is nice of the company to leave the servers on for the players, it clearly won’t last forever. The question now is just how long will they keep them going before shutting them down for good?
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT had a lot of promise leading up to its international launch on the PlayStation 4 in January 2018. The series already had a hardcore fan following when it was on the PlayStation Portable with the first and second games, Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy respectively. Unfortunately, the third entry never really took off, and despite being a hit in it’s native Japan, there was a bit of a mixed reception everywhere else.

It was ported to PC in March 2019, and also went to a free-to-play model in hopes of bringing in more players. With Square Enix essentially beginning the end-of-life process on the game, it’s apparent that the company had decided that there isn’t enough interest to warrant any more updates for the title. Lastly, Square Enix stated that there will be a final tournament at a fighting game event in Japan. This is scheduled to take place after the final patch. As we stated earlier, the games servers will remain online for the foreseeable future, but with the company’s focus moving towards their upcoming AAA titles this year, it’s only a matter of time before they pull the plug on that too.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is available on the PlayStation 4 and PC.
