Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, the mobile-exclusive 3v3 team battle arena title involving two teams clashing against each other, roaming monsters, and time, has received a March 23 release date. A new trailer and additional characters have also been revealed.
The trailer mentions new alliances, with legendary Final Fantasy characters — not at their full strength — taking on different roles and working together to defeat monsters and save the people of modern-day Tokyo. The interactions between heroes aren’t always cordial, with Balthier telling Firion to “Refrain from acting like a child.”
Previously, Dissidia Duellum‘s announcement trailer hinted at six new characters hidden in silhouette. The Dissidia Duellum team have unveiled and confirmed these characters to be:
Onion Knight (Final Fantasy III)
Iroha (Final Fantasy XI)
Firion (Final Fantasy II)
Balthier (Final Fantasy XII)
Rikku (Final Fantasy X)
Clive (Final Fantasy XVI)
The end of the new trailer reiterates the question — “Who are the next Ghost?” — hinting that more heroes are joining the fray.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy features a 3v3 Team Boss Battle Arena, in which two teams of three compete to defeat a powerful boss faster than the opposing team. Players can accumulate Bravery points by purifying crystals across the arena, and use those points to deal damage to bosses and enemy players. There are four character roles: Melee, Ranged, Agile, and Support. The controls are designed for one-handed mobile play and feature cel-shaded graphics, along with full Japanese voice acting. Players can expect a story mode and a gacha system for acquiring abilities.
The game is set in modern-day Tokyo, which is a unique direction for a series that has been predominantly grounded in fantasy. After a massive crystal appears in the city and becomes corrupted by dark energy, it begins to spawn waves of monsters called “Aggressions.” Iconic Final Fantasy characters are summoned to fight, yet hide their identities behind modern-day fashion, leading the people of Tokyo to refer to them as “Ghosts.”
Dissidia Duellum can be download via the App Store and Google Play on March 23.
