Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Releases March 2026

The sixth title in the Dissidia Final Fantasy series, co-developed by Square Enix and NHN PlayArt, releases this month on iOS and Android. The mobile exclusive was announced on October 14, 2025, and features a roster of returning characters from the Final Fantasy franchise.

Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy features a 3v3 Team Boss Battle Arena, in which two teams of three compete to defeat a powerful boss faster than the opposing team. Players can accumulate Bravery points by purifying crystals across the arena, and use those points to deal damage to bosses and enemy players. There are four character roles: Melee, Ranged, Agile, and Support. The controls are designed for one-handed mobile play and feature cel-shaded graphics, along with full Japanese voice acting. Players can expect a story mode and a gacha system for acquiring abilities.

The game is set in modern-day Tokyo, which is a unique direction for a series that has been predominantly grounded in fantasy. After a massive crystal appears in the city and becomes corrupted by dark energy, it begins to spawn waves of monsters called “Aggressions.” Iconic Final Fantasy characters are summoned to fight, yet hide their identities behind modern-day fashion, leading the people of Tokyo to refer to them as “Ghosts.” The warriors communicate with each other via a group chat on their mobile phones, with some adapting to modern technology more easily than others.

There is a confirmed launch roster of 10 characters:

  • Warrior of Light (Final Fantasy I)
  • Kain Highwind (Final Fantasy IV)
  • Krile Mayer Baldesion (Final Fantasy V)
  • Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI)
  • Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)
  • Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII)
  • Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX)
  • Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII)
  • Gaia (Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers)
  • Prompto Argentum (Final Fantasy XV)

According to the Closed Beta Test report, experienced and inexperienced competitive mobile gamers reported high intent-to-play rates of 83% and 75%, respectively, saying they would install and play the game upon release. Regarding combat, players appreciated having the option to avoid PvP entirely and instead focus on purifying crystals and fighting the boss. The story and graphics were especially well received, with players praising the fresh narrative, voice acting, and visual style, and noting that it was enjoyable to see the characters interacting with each other. Some players noted that parts of the UI were difficult to understand, and that enemy HP bars were obstructing allies’ HP on screen — issues the dev team has addressed and plans to improve.

Pre-registration is currently live on the App Store and Google Play, with rewards that include 20 Draw Tickets, 3,000 MogPay Points, 8 BGM tracks from past Dissidia titles, and 5 Character Tickets.

Andy Nguyen: As a child, I translated strategy guides from English into Vietnamese for my dad so he could play through the Final Fantasy games, and in the process, the franchise became one of my own most beloved. From there, my life was filled with MMORPGs like Ragnarok Online, which I still look back on with fondness. I’m a fiction writer with a background in Creative Writing who primarily writes dark romance, but video games will always remain a big part of my life.
