Disney Lorcana Announces Competitive Circuit, World Championships to be Held In 2025

Disney Lorcana, the competitive card game produced in collaboration between Disney and Ravensburger, announced the release of several new card sets, alongside the launch of a competitive circuit in 2024, with the first Disney Lorcana World Championship in 2025. Disney Lorcana was launched in late 2023, with special early-release events attracting lines lasting hours, and cards reselling for thousands of dollars online.

In a press release, the Global Head of Games at Ravensburger, Filip Francke, took a stance against scalpers, stating,

We will continue to do everything in our power to make the product available at MSRP pricing.

Included in the 2024 Roadmap for Disney Lorcana were also details regarding the competitive future of the game. April 2024 will mark local in-store competitive events, with winners earning exclusive playmats alongside a special edition of the Stitch, Rock Star card. Following the introduction of these local events will be the official competitive debut of Disney Lorcana in May, with regional events allowing players to qualify for the North American and European Championships. These regional championships will be followed by the first-ever Disney Lorcana World Championship in 2025.

Disney Lorcana competes with similar card games such as the Pokémon Trading Card Game and Magic: The Gathering, both of which have well-established competitive scenes, as well as countless expansions and new card releases following their respective launches in 1996 and 1993. Now, Disney Lorcana is following in its footsteps with Into the Inklands, the 3rd card set, releasing on February 23, as well as three yet-unnamed future card sets, May 17, August 9, and November 15, 2024.

In addition to these card sets is the Disney Lorcana TCG Gateway pack, a playset designed to introduce first-time players to the game, with two complete decks inside. The TCG Gateway pack will introduce a simplified, 30-card version of the game, before adding more complex cards and gameplay mechanics over time, building up to the traditional 60-card deck. The TCG Gateway pack will release August 9, 2024 at a retail price of $24.99
