Dishonored 2 Reveals a New Demo at QuakeCon

This week’s QuakeCon in Dallas, Texas recently revealed a demo for their soon-to-be-released sequel, Dishonored 2. According to PCgamer, Bethesda Studio also released several demos for their upcoming games, including Doom: Unto the Evil, and Quake Champions, but people can find these demos online so the anticipation for QuakeCon is geared on another game: Dishonored 2. At E3 this past June, Bethesda announced their world-premiere of Dishonored 2 and featured some gameplay that showcased gamers what they’ve developed so far. The demo at E3 mostly focused on the new playable character – the young Empress, Emily Kaldwin – and her new powers. Below is the gameplay released at E3.

However, at this year’s QuakeCon, Arkane Co-creative Director Harvey Smith showed off new gameplay – this time playing as the first game’s hero, Corvo Attano. Bethesda hasn’t released the demo that was featured yesterday at QuakeCon, but they have released a write up on their site detailing the demo. And the new combat moves sound promising thus far.

According to their blog post on Bethesda.net, the Blink feature on the first Dishonored game, which was used to move around, is now enhanced for combative purposes:

Blink isn’t just for movement anymore. Twice we saw Corvo use his signature power in newly aggressive ways: blinking into a foe and immediately stabbing him in the neck, and later using it to slam into an enemy, shoving him back with deadly force. Corvo’s Blink also includes the ‘stop time and redirect’ improvement from the Dishonored DLC The Knife of Dunwall (often called ‘Daud’s Blink’ by the community and YouTubers), giving him more flexibility in traversal and stealth.

Apparently, the demo gameplay featured an example of Corvo using the all new Blink maneuver. In the demo, Corvo is leaping off a high building to face a nest keeper (a creepy foe who guards Bloodfly nests). However, in the demo, as Corvo leaps, time slows down time, shoots both arms off the nest keeper, explodes a nest nearby full of bloodflies, before finally inhabiting one of the nearby insects to escape. Dishonored 2 is set to be released on November 11 of this year for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PS4. Until then, we will have to wait for more videos of the gameplay.
