Dishonored 2 Plagued With PC Performance Issues, Bethesda Responds

The highly anticipated sequel to the action-adventure video game, Dishonored, came out today, but instead of celebrating raving reviews, developers and publishers have spent its launch day addressing several problems PC gamers are having. Problems arose yesterday, in fact (a day before launch day), for those gamers who pre-ordered the game and got it on early access. Its Steam page, within a few hours after its initial launch, was flooded with reviews describing gamer’s issues, ranging from low or unstable framerates to blurry graphics to mouse sensitivity issues. Arkane Studios, the studio behind Dishonored 2, and Bethesda, the publisher behind the game, both have released statements regarding gamer’s concerns.

According to Polygon, co-creative director of Arkane Studio, Harvey Smith, took to Twitter to acknowledge the issues with PC performance, stating that “we’re aware some PC players are having problems. We’re investigating. Send details to @Bethesdasupport.”

Smith said that Arkane is looking into player’s complaints but that it couldn’t offer any time frame for the fix, they were only able to reassure them that they were investigating the problems and working diligently to fix the issues. Smith was asked about if a day-one patch that came out for both the Xbox one and PS4 would work to fix the issues plaguing the PC game, but Smith said the PC version already came with the same day-one patch console players got.

Although there seems to be no permanent solution coming from Smith and Arkane, Bethesda has offered a list of updated tools and tips to help the game perform at a much more efficient rate. According the Bethesda, if you meet the recommended specs, you’re encouraged to play with high settings enabled with a consistent 60fps gameplay. But for those that want to play the game with ultra-settings, you’ll need to have specs that “far exceed” those recommended settings.

However, for the rest of the gamers who are experiencing a issues with the game’s performance, Bethesda suggests that the first thing you should do is lower the resolution. Only players who have a high-end GPU (those with a GTX 1070/1080 or equivalent) should be playing at 1440p. However, if you’re still experiencing a massive fluctuation in frame rate settings, then you’ll need to ensure that the V-Sync is activated. If your frame rate is running at a lower rate than 30fps, you should adjust the Adaptive Resolution to keep it between 50 percent and 75 percent. If this still doesn’t fix the issues with your PC performance, Bethesda recommends fixing some advanced settings: swtich back to the automatic presets that came with the game; if that doesn’t work, however, try deactivating the TXAA Anti-Aliasing tool and lower the texture details.

The publisher also reminds gamers to make sure they have the latest versions of Windows and DirectX running, while also making sure they have their graphics card up to date. The latest card for Nvidia gamers should have running is currently 375.70, while AMD gamers should have the 10.16.2 card running.

Arkane Studios and Bethesda are still investigating the issues with PC performance.
