All Discord users now have the chance to use the app’s newest video chat and screen-sharing features, now that the beta test and Discord nitro test stages are complete. Discord officially released the new features last week, which allows up to 10 people to video chat in direct messages (DM) and share entire screens while browsing Discord or other apps. The Discord team also worked to fix issues users had with editing and deleting messages, and creating an option that allows video to be viewed horizontally and vertically. At the moment, video sharing cannot be accessed through servers but the feature was just released, so Discord may offer more options for video in the future.
In addition to video chatting and screen sharing features, Discord added server verification options for game publishers and developers. According to Discord’s official website, a server has to meet certain criteria before it can be verified:
- Your server is owned and managed by a game publisher and/or developer
- You are prepared to implement Discord’s server requirements
- You are committed to follow Discord’s community guidelines and terms of service
Servers who meet the criteria can apply for verification here, and admins of verified servers have the option to post direct invite links to any of their social media platforms and official websites. Discord offers tips on how to efficiently promote verified servers with developer and publisher brands, while users can be sure a server is verified as long as it has the verification check-mark next to the server’s name.
Unfortunately, community-led servers do not meet the criteria for verification but they can take part in the Discord Partners program. Discord partners get access to special features such as Discord Nitro, high-quality voice servers, and exclusive partner logos.
