The award-winning RPG-Narrative title Disco Elysium is coming to the Nintendo Switch. The news came out in bit of a roundabout way as it was revealed through an interview with BBC’s 5Live Game On Podcast with ZA/UM’s Aleksander Rostov and Helen Hindpere, the studio’s Art and Narrative Lead Designers respectively. In the interview, Rostov stated that “This interview is, at this very moment, interrupting me from writing up design documentation for the user interface and input systems for the Switch port.” and Hinpere followed this with “It’s going to happen soon”.
The game was already confirmed to be releasing on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this year, and now there’s a possibility that it will be available for the Switch not too long after. This would also greatly expand the audience in general, as the game has a huge fanbase with the only platform it’s currently available on; PC. Disco Elysium has won over the hearts and minds of many critics/reviewers as well as reinvent the RPG game style with a narrative focused mechanic.
Launching in October of last year, Disco Elysium was universally acclaimed and is considered to be one of the best games of 2019. It was nominated for and won plethora of awards over the course of the video game awards season. These include The Game Awards, the D.I.C.E. Awards, the GDC Developers Choice Awards, and most recently the BAFTA’s where it won Best Debut Game, Best Music, and Best Narrative. Not too bad for a brand new IP and for a newer studio developing it. Hopefully, we hear more on the Switch port, as well as a release date.
Disco Elysium is available now for PC through Steam. It will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch at a later time.
