One of DICE’s subsidiary studios has announced that it has officially rebranded itself in order to fully differentiate itself from the main developer in Sweden. What was once DICE LA has changed their name to Ripple Effect Studios. In a blog post, Ripple Effect Studios General Manager Christian Grass stated “We’re so proud of our work as DICE LA and the DICE team will forever be a part of our DNA, but over the past eight years, we’ve developed our own culture and our own way of doing things. We’re excited to look towards the future, expand the team and establish our own identity.”
As you can see in the tweet above, the studio has also been hard at work on a new feature for the upcoming Battlefield 2042, as well as brand new IP. The rebranding of the studio has also been in the works for some time. This new move was most likely initiated when Vince Zampella began to co-manage the studio, in addition to running his own, Respawn Entertainment. The ideas was to fully separate it from their namesake and eventually become their own entity in the EA umbrella.
The studio was originally founded as DICE LA in 2013 and was initially comprised of former Danger Close developers after the latter was dissolved. Since then the studio has existed as a secondary building in order to support DICE in development of the Battlefield franchise. Despite the name change, and plans for their own projects, Ripple Effect Studios is still scheduled to assist DICE with Battlefield 2042, which is currently scheduled to launch this year on October 22. We’ll more than likely see some more in the game when EA hosts their own special event, EA Play Live which takes place on July 22.
