One of the most prolific publishing companies in the entire video game industry has added yet another studio to their ever-expanding empire. Devolver Digital has announced that they have officially acquired indie developer Doinksoft for an undisclosed amount. Devolver made the reveal on their official Twitter account, saying that the studio was now a part of Team Devolver, which has to be the most chaotic video game team in existence. This is the most recent acquisition for the publisher, who has been on a spending spree for the better part of two-plus years.
Doinksoft reciprocated this by making their own version of the announcement on their official Twitter account. In perhaps their way of mimicking Devolver, Doinksoft released a very brief video with some thinly veiled phrases including “there is no ‘I’ in indie,” and “Doinksoft is now Devolver’s problem.” Considering that both parties involved seem to have the same type of work atmosphere, this acquisition will more than likely turn into a match made in heaven. Doinksoft’s first title, the side-scrolling kitty shooter Gato Roboto, released back in 2019 while their next title Gunbrella is slated to launch sometime in 2023. Both titles are and have been published by Devolver prior to the acquisition.
As we mentioned earlier, Devolver has been expanding their overall library by bringing in more indie developers within their umbrella. This was emphasized when they finally went public on the London Stock Exchange back in November 2021, allowing investors to purchase stakes of the company. The most notable stock purchase came from Sony, whom purchased roughly 8% of the controlling interest. Due to these purchases, the value of the company rose exponentially, giving them an initial value of just under $1 billion after making themselves available on the stock market.
