E3 2023 might no longer be happening, but another, highly anticipated video game presentation is going to make it’s annual return this Summer. Indie publisher powerhouse Devolver Digital has just announced that their Devolver Direct will indeed be happening, and it will take place sometime this June. The company made the reveal in the most Devolver Digital way ever, by simply posting a Tweet stating “Yes we’re doing a Devolver Direct in June. More information soon.” This was then followed by the account responding to random questions on the thread, which included someone asking if they needed any extras to be murdered, and if Hollow Knight Silksong was going to be announced in it.

For those who aren’t aware, the Devlver Direct is not your standard video game presentation. The company started their Directs in 2017, initially going with the name of Digital Big Fancy Press Conference. These Directs are not like any of the regular video game live events. Instead, Devovler hires actors to play the roles of the employees at the publication, complete with fake names, titles and all. As the presentation commences, chaos and hilarity ensue, with most of the cast trying to actually kill each other whilst announcing new titles that Devolver is publishing in real life. It’s become one of the most anticipated Directs during the video game events in the Summer, and every time they seem to one up themselves when it comes to the overall presentation.
The previous year, Devolver held their Direct on June 9, which in turn was part of the Summer Game Fest 2022. With E3 2023 officially canceled, Devolver joins a who’s who of industry giants who ware using the aforementioned month as their launching platform to showcase new ips and updates to their current ones. Just like last year, all of these will be coinciding with the Summer Game Fest 2023, which is Geoff Keighly’s own take on the annual video game festivities of the Summer. In addition, we can also expect Ubisoft to host their Ubisoft Forward presentation, as well as the Xbox Games Showcase/Starfield Direct which will both happen on the same day. On top of all that, a PlayStation Showcase is reportedly happening at the end of this month, Needless to say, these next couple of months are going to be very busy for the video game community.
