Capcom has been known for a crossover or two (or Infinite) throughout their history, and today marks the reveal of one of the most unexpected in-house partnerships yet. Dante, the series mascot for Devil May Cry and one of gaming’s most iconic characters, will be joining the fun in Monster Hunter: World.
Officially announced through the Capcom blog, Dante’s announcement helps commemorate the release of the Devil May Cry HD Collection for Xbox One and PS4, which includes remastered versions of the first three games in the series. However, it’s likely that the new Monster Hunter content will overshadow the compilation, as Capcom fans will likely be chomping at the bits to take Dante out into the field.
Aside from the new outfits, Dante comes equipped with a unique weapon that falls into the Charge Blade category. Typically, weapons with that classification are giant sword/shield/axe hybrids that can transform based on inputs, but Dante—true to form—brings his own style. He will wield the Force Edge, which Devil May Cry fans will quickly recognize as his signature weapons, and is able to transform it into Alastor, another legendary weapon from the series.
Amid persisting rumors that Devil May Cry V will be revealed at this year’s E3, this reveal should surely stoke the fires of speculation. Whether that’s true or not, Dante will definitely drum up some enthusiasm for the Devil May Cry HD Collection—and seeing as Monster Hunter: World is officially Capcom’s best-selling game of all time with over 7 million units sold, it’s not a bad audience to go after.
