During Summer Game Fest this year, SIE and Naughty Dog officially revealed The Last of Us Part I, the definitive version of the game rebuilt from the ground up for PlayStation 5. The game is set to release later this year on September 2, 2022. Before the official reveal, many have been wondering why it exists at all as it was already remastered for PlayStation 4. Many are calling it a “cash grab” as the HBO series is also set to come out in the near future. There is also been criticism as to the price of the game. It’s set at $70 as has been the norm for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 generation. A developer took to Twitter, gave his thoughts on the situation, and said that the game is “not a cash grab.”
“It’s just a cash grab”
Actually it’s the most meticulously built and crafted project that I have ever seen or been a part of in my entire career. The highest level of care and attention to detail possible. pic.twitter.com/csjZ3kZMyG

Developer Robert Morrison, who is currently part of Sony Bend Studio worked on The Last of Us Part I as part of PlayStation’s Visual Arts studio who co-developed the game alongside Naughty Dog. Morrison also gave his thoughts about the price of the game.
The price of the game is out of my control and worth is subjective to each individual. You can decide for yourself if you want it or not. All I’m saying is I am in awe of the work that an amazing group of people did on the project. A tremendous amount of passion was put into it.

Following Morrison’s comments, others took to Twitter to give their thoughts on the game. Some are on the side that this is a cash grab, others don’t think that way. As with anything, there are a lot of different opinions.
IMO the issue isn’t The Last Of Us being remade, we all know it’s one of best games of all time
The issue is showing us why it needed to be remade and charging $70 https://t.co/QnlHXHat9s

In my head it’s just future-proofing a masterpiece for new gamers who are used to newer controls/gameplay, and I’m glad they get to experience it this way. It’s less about people who’ve already played it before (imo). 2/2

Ya I don’t want to pay $70 when I already bought it.

Yeah $70 is overpriced. I’d gladly pay $40, I’d rather wait for the PC version.

Every game is a cash grab. Just like every movie or TV show or music album. It’s actually good marketing. People who’ve never played it before will because it’s going to play much better. Because of the HBO show more people than ever before will be aware of the game. It’s smart.
