Destiny: The Taken King has so far kept it’s promises in how the expansion will change the overall game. One change, announced yesterday via blog, and implemented today has the game’s most popular merchant Xûr getting his own few tweaks.
For the uninitiated, Xûr is the in-game merchant who sells exotic items and only appears every Friday through Sunday. Die hard fans of the game flocked to him on a weekly basis to speculate about what items are worth their hard earned in-game dollars. But from the looks of things his inventory may be a little more limited moving forward.
In the weekly update Senior Design Lead Tyson Green explains that Xûr will now only have a specific exotic weapon or exotic engram. “This change is due primarily to our desire to give players more direct paths to acquiring the Exotics they want through Quests and gameplay experiences, and to avoid repetition in his inventory” Green reasons.
Xûr will also sell a new consumable called “Three of Coins”. This particular item gives bosses more of a chance to drop Exotic Engrams, including Weapon Engrams. If the item is used and fails then the next one has an even larger chance of dropping and Exotic. This item is sold in packs of five for seven coins.
So far this item has been reportedly getting exploited due to the fact that even the lowest levels of bosses qualify for this. Players have used been using methods such as reloading checkpoints seconds away from boss spawns, and then blowing themselves up with a rocket launcher to reset. So far no fix has been announced for this exploit so if you want to farm exotics quickly your time to do is it now.
Last, Xûr will also be able to help will up Year One Exotic Collection. He will be choosing a Legacy Engram each week, with a strong bias to Engrams not in your collection, for your purchase each week.
Destiny: The Taken King has been strong out the gate and according to Activision is now the most downloaded game on launch day in PlayStation history.
