Destiny’s Iron Banner Tournament Cancelled [UPDATE]

When players think of Destiny, the new Rise of Iron expansion should be the only thing on their minds. Unfortunately, it’s been briefly overshadowed by Bungie’s decision to cancel this week’s Iron Banner tournament.

The Iron Banner tournament is a popular competitive mode favored by players with higher light levels. This week’s tournament was scheduled to begin June 21st at 10 AM PST – however, network connection issues plaguing players attempting to join this weekend’s Trials of Osiris event seem to have affected Iron Banner as well. Players also reported character data failing to load, and “damage not registering correctly in Crucible matches.”

The cancellation is a pretty big bummer, not only because playing competitively is so fun, but because the rewards looked like they were worth the grind. Plus, the announcement made a Scott Pilgrim vs. the World reference. What’s not to love?

Hopefully the issues will be resolved shortly, and the Iron Banner event with these rewards will be held at a later date. In the meantime, it’s worth reading up on the new Rise of Iron expansion, which is set to drop September 20 for $30 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

UPDATE 6/23/16: According to Bungie’s latest “This Week at Bungie” post, Trials of Osiris could possibly return tomorrow once “we’ve had a chance to confirm that all is well.” If Trials of Osiris goes well, the Iron Banner tournament will be rescheduled to next week.
