Destiny 2’s First DLC, Curse of Osiris, Locks Players Out of Pre-existing Content

Destiny 2, having been developed by Bungie, has only been out for three months, and only 43 days on PC. Since then, the title has introduced their first piece of downloadable content, Curse of Osiris. It adds new challenges and raises the player level and power level cap for characters, but at the same time, the raised levels have now locked vanilla players out of content they could once access.

Curse of Osiris currently requires players to have a power level of 330 in order to access the prestige raids and firestrikes from the base game. Prestige versions of these playlists were designed to be an end-game difficulty to test a player’s absolute limits in exchange for rare and legendary quality loot. Before the launch of the DLC, players only required a power level of 270 to participate in the raid or firestrikes, but a power level of 300 is recommended. Now, the Leviathan raid and the Nightfall and Trials of the Nine firestrikes require the player to have a power level of 330 before they can attempt these events. The current power level cap without Curse of Osiris is set at 305, making all three events inaccessible to end-game players without the DLC.

In addition, the heroic strike playlist, a random playlist of firestrikes previously present in the original Destiny, is only accessible to owners of the Curse of Osiris DLC. The heroic playlist offers better loot with the trade off of not knowing which firestrike the player will be participating in.

As well as locking players out of previously accessible content, it is now impossible for vanilla players to get all of the original achievements for the game. One of the achievements for Destiny 2, The Prestige, requires the player to either complete the Leviathan raid or the Nightfall strike on the prestige difficulty.

Bungie has yet to make an official statement on the matter.
