Destiny 2: The Final Shape’s Launch Once Again Impacted By Server Instability

Finally after nearly 10 years, the conclusion of the saga that has been the center of Destiny’s storyline since the beginning is coming to an end. Destiny 2: The Final Shape is being released on servers today. For the seventh year of Destiny 2, The Final Shape brings the final confrontation between the Witness, the Traveler, and the Guardian (the player) after the events of Lightfall’s final season – Season of the Seraph.

Lightfall received lukewarm reviews in comparison to previous expansions like Forsaken (2018) and The Witch Queen (2022). However, player counts have been rising back to Lightfall release levels since March. For anyone who needs a refresher about any of the Destiny lore, or all of it if you have the time, can visit My Name is Byf’s (Lore Daddy for short) lore recap of everything from the beginning to right before The Final Shape begins. The Final Shape has the extremely challenging job of bringing to conclusion one of the most long-standing stories in gaming. There is a lot of pressure on Bungie to get this ending right.

For those ready and raring to go they might have to wait a few more hours as maintenance was extended on the servers. Hopefully this issue has been resolved sooner rather than later as videos of important story moments have already been dotting many’s YouTube recommended feed.

Following hours of maintenance and many players not being able to log in to play, Bungie was able to get the servers back in order. They released a statement on X/Twitter apologizing for the connection issues.

The race to finish the story blind is on for those able to devote the time to it.

While this might be the end of Destiny’s first saga, one ten years in the making, the games and world of Destiny don’t seem to be over just yet, or at least some fans hope it doesn’t. Whatever’s in store for Destiny, The Final Shape must first be faced. The finale of the Light and Dark saga hits servers today, June 4th, 2024.
