Destiny 2‘s next round of DLC Warmind is set to release next week on May 8, but something else to come has players just as excited. Developer Bungie has been doing a good job of letting players know what’s coming next to the title, but it seems like they are keeping things somewhat mysterious for a dramatic reveal. Publisher Activision has teased that a new update will be bringing an all new game mode to Destiny 2.
During a first quarter earnings call, President of Activison, Coddy Johnson, was asked how they were planning to improve upon the game. He responded that Bungie had showed a group of top Destiny 2 players Warmind as well as what’s to come within the fall update. Of course none of the players were allowed to disclose anything they were shown, but Johnson himself added that the response from both of the coming updates were “very positive.”
He didn’t share any details but stated that this style of play would be new to FPS in general not just to Destiny 2. This piece of information should defeat any speculation that this will be the addition of a battle royale mode. Johnson stated that the addition is “an incredibly engaging new mode–one that introduces a whole new style of play for first-person shooter gaming generally and certainly for the shared-world shooter space that Destiny created. It’s a really exciting development. It’s one of the things we think will really speak to the community when it comes out in the fall.”
Fans shouldn’t expect to hear anymore news about the new mode until after the release of Warmind. However, they can anticipate a full fledge reveal next month at E3. Whether it be a brand new trailer or some gameplay, we sure hope that this new mode brings a breath of fresh air.
