Destiny 2 Lore Daddy Releases 10 Hour Recap

Destiny 2 is about to have its final pre announced expansion come out on Tuesday, June 4th. The Final Shape, the conclusion of a saga that has spanned the first and second Destiny games, will deal with the final confrontation between the forces of light and dark. In preparation for the release Youtuber My Name is Byf (affectionately called Lore Daddy by the community) released 10-hour recap of the entire lore and story up to the beginning of The Final Shape. For fans who’ve been playing since release and need a refresh, or those who weren’t too happy with Lightfall, it’s the perfect way to make sure you’re completely caught up – although it might take several sittings to complete.

The recap was initially premiered live on YouTube on May 31st, and as of writing this article, has 559 thousand views. Needless to say the demand, or the need, for Byf’s compilation of a game nearly seven years old is clear. I’ve enjoyed some of Byf’s content before, when The Witch Queen expansion came out in 2022 and I needed to learn basically everything to enjoy its powerful reveals. After getting caught up I understood how good The Witch Queen expansion was, which makes Lightfall’s release so much harder to bear.

Lightfall, the last main expansion before The Final Shape, was released in February of 2023 and was met with lukewarm reviews especially considering its story and lore. Taking place in a cyberpunk city on Neptune, it involved a bit of a side track from the imminent arrival of the big bad Witness. Hopefully, Byf’s compilation can give me the important notes, as well as help anyone else confused understand what The Final Shape may have in store for players.

The Destiny games have covered a lot of ground, especially in Destiny 2’s nearly 7 years of running. As the community approaches the finale of the original saga, and perhaps a new beginning after, it can be nice to remind ourselves of all the great moments – and even not so great moments – that players can appreciate for The Final Shape.
