Destiny 2 Is Officially Announced by Bungie

Fans have been awaiting the announcement for the sequel to 2014’s first-person shooter Destiny and now it’s official. The Verge reports that Bungie, the developer most well-known for its Halo series, has officially announced Destiny 2 via the Destiny Twitter account. The Tweet containing the announcement is below.

The Verge further speculates that Bungie will provide more information about the game at this year’s E3 in June, seeing as little information is given in the official announcement. The original Destiny is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One, so it’s possible that Destiny 2 will be available for these same consoles, though it’s also likely that it will only be available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Verge also reports that there are rumors of Destiny 2 being available for PC. They also state that the items and abilities collected by the player in the first Destiny will not be transferrable to the sequel, so players will have to start off with a clean slate.

Though an official release date has not been announced, Polygon reports that a leaked image of a promotional poster for the game seems to reveal a September 8 release for the game. The image is below.

Last month, The Verge reported that Activision, Destiny‘s publisher, stated that the sequel was on track to be released in the fall of this year. The supposed September release date leaked in the image coincides with that statement. Either way, we’re sure to get more information on Destiny 2 in the coming months.
