Back in June, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 would be receiving a cross-save feature. Earlier this month, the date for the new feature was announced for yesterday August 21. However, according to Gamespot, the feature appears to be having some issues for certain players. The official Bungie help page Twitter account tweeted the following concerning these issues:
Apparently some players are having difficulty logging into their account as whenever they go to account authentication, they receive an error 500 report. In another post on Twitter, the company stated that they would be doing maintenance for cross save. For players who were disappointed about being unable to cross-save yesterday, fret not, because it should be available later today. In another update on Twitter, Bungie stated that the cross save would be available at 12:30 pm PDT today.
While there have been a few hiccups with the feature at the moment, the cross-save feature will allow players to transfer their accounts from one console to another, provided that both consoles have a copy of the game. However, if players obtain the free-to-play version of Destiny 2, New Light which comes out later this year, they will have to take a more complicated route to access certain expansions. If a player is playing Destiny 2 on New Light, they will have to purchase the Shadowkeep expansion, or any content released after the Forsaken Expansion using New Light, on any platform that they want to transfer their save to. The cross-save feature should be available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One today at 12:30 pm PDT.
