At the expense of dating this article, I’d like to let our readers know that Deltarune Chapter 2 releases in 24 hours. Major spoilers for Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 1 ahead.
Deltarune is the surprise Undertale spinoff developed by the same, single person: Toby Fox. Undertale received unanimous praise on release and is still seen as one of the best story-based games of all time, so this is a developer to look out for. Fox reaffirmed his talent with Deltarune Chapter 1, which he released under the guise of a totally new IP. Fans were excited to discover that the game seemed to pick up some years after Undertale’s story following the same main character, generally known as Frisk… but eerily different.
Deltarune’s atmosphere was far more tense than Undertale, and often challenged many of the themes and mechanics present in the latter, going so far as to emphasize the lack of choice more than freedom of gameplay. This suspicious setup culminates during the game’s climactic finale, which sees the main character tear out their heart, toss it into a cage, and reveal a knife before staring into the camera with glowing red eyes. Pretty major cliffhanger, there.
That’s where fans were left hanging way back in October 2018, with no solid idea of whether a sequel would even happen in the first place. Thankfully, Fox announced that the second chapter of Deltarune would be coming later this year, confirming not only that the game was in progress, but that he had been steadily working at putting together the story and major events taking place in every chapter in Deltarune.

Now, Deltarune’s web page is counting down to the second chapter’s release! The page also explains how to make sure your save data from the first chapter carries over to the second. The post says that if players have seen the game’s credits by going to sleep at the end of chapter 1, then the completion data will be carried over. However, pre-existing data isn’t required to play.
As long as you generally remember what happened story-wise, you’ll be fine.
Deltarune Chapter 2 releases September 17th for PS4, Switch, and PC.
