Deep Silver Announces Dead Island: Retro Revenge

Deep Silver is developing new game in the Dead Island series called Dead Island: Retro Revenge.  The game is slated to be released in 2016 and is being developed by Empty Clip Studios, whose work includes PC ports of the Bit.Trip series.

Considering Empty Clip Studios past work, I could probably guess the Dead Island: Retro Revenge could perhaps be a mobile game with arcade style gameplay.  I could see a Temple Run style game where you run away from zombies, or perhaps it could be some sort of zombie-themed puzzle game.  Retro Revenge will probably be quite different from the original survival horror gameplay of the first Dead Island.

For a series whose concept is “people trapped on an island with zombies,” it’s pretty crazy how many games Deep Silver has made with this license.  There was Dead Island: Riptide, a stand-alone expansion to the original; Escape Dead Island, a point and click zombie adventure game which sounds oddly familiar to another popular zombie adventure series; and Dead Island: Epidemic, a MOBA style game that closed down after about 9 months.  Seems that whatever is popular at the time you could just throw zombies into it and it is expected to be a success (of course, Dead Island is not the only one guilty of this).

If you are a Dead Island fan and are still waiting for a confirmed release date for Dead Island 2, then perhaps you can go to your local Best Buy bargain bin and get your Dead Island fix to hold you over.

Macklin Dwyer: Macklin hasn't paid more than 5 dollars for a game for the last two years. You can see his comics and reviews of bad video games on his blog theraddestblog.tumblr.com.
