Things aren’t looking good for Dead Island 2, first it was in the hands of Techland before publisher Deep Silver decided to hand the reins over to Spec Ops: The Line developers Yager. Then the studio left the project due to creative differences. After that, things went silent until few months ago when Dr. Klemens Kundratitz the CEO of Kock Media, Deep Silver’s parent company, announced that the creators of Little Big Planet 3, Sumo Digital, would be developing the game.
That was the last we heard about the project until today when a user on NeoGAF noticed that Dead Island 2 had vanished from Steam. Original poster Death Sparks detailed what disappeared from the Steam storefront in the image below.
Currently the only the other Dead Island titles appear when you search for the game. This could mean a couple of things: one, the game could be cancelled, which is possible, considering what the game has gone through since its announcement; or Sumo Digital might have changed a few things about the game have decided to remove the game entirely while they are working on it.
While it may look like the game is done for it’s worth noting that when Dr. Kundratitz made the announcement he made it sound like the game was getting back on track and that we would hear more soon. However things change, especially in this industry, and we will have to wait and see.

Currently Dead Island‘s original developers, Techland, are working on a remastered version of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide for PS4 and Xbox One which should be out today, May 31st.
Techland also recent said that they have two new games in development, one of which could be a sequel to Dead Island‘s spiritual successor Dying Light.
