Upcoming zombie action-adventure game Days Gone has been a feature of Sony’s E3 conference for the last two years. Development has been progressing, if somewhat slowly, and now developers SIE Bend Studio and Sony are ready to give players a release date.
For anyone unfamiliar, Days Gone is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a global pandemic killed off most of the worlds population before turning the rest into mindless and violent zombie-like creatures. Players will step into the shoes of Deacon St. John, an outlaw turned bounty hunter who generally keeps to himself instead of moving into one of the remaining human settlements.
Within the hostile world, players will come up against ‘Freakers’, this universe’s term for their zombies. Freakers can take human form, but whatever has affected them has also affected the wildlife, like bears and wolves. Regular, unfriendly, human enemies will also need to be considered.
Combat will focus a lot on stealth and short range weaponry, but it will all be complimented by a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle to help add a sense of reality to the bleak post-apocalyptic world.
The announcement came yesterday during a countdown to E3 livestream on the PlayStation YouTube channel. The livestream showed some footage of the game, exploring some of the animal threats and the fact that you can run out of gas, but largely existed to reveal the release date: February 22, 2019.
In addition to the livestream, Sony posted a new release date trailer for the game:
This release is really starting to come together for Sony. The graphics look stunning on the PS4 Pro, and the world is starting to feel more and more complete and dynamic as they reveal different elements that you might encounter on your way. Hopefully there will be more surprises at this year’s E3.
Days Gone will be available only on the PS4 February 22, 2019.
