When new game files appear on our PCs, there’s always a group of people who are willing to dig deep into them in order to see what secrets they can uncover. Fallout 76 is no exception to this rule. It’s been about two days since the Fallout 76 beta became playable for PC users, and dataminers have already dug up some information on perk cards not yet in the game.
Keep in mind that these files may ultimately be unused in the game.
For those who haven’t followed Fallout 76’s development, perk cards are one of the ways players progress in power as they level up. As characters level up, they add points to their S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck) and perk cards. The perk cards are gained from occasional packs of random cards on gaining levels and players can choose a card related to a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat by improving that stat. Perk cards have point costs and players can only equip as many perk cards as the value of the related S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat.
One of the more interesting datamined cards relates to how PvP works in the game. In order to “legally” engage in PvP, players have to opt into it. If a player kills someone who hasn’t opted in, the killer becomes an outlaw. Outlaws are marked on the map for all to see, and anyone who kills the outlaw can collect a bounty. The perk card ‘Outlaw’ reduces the killer’s bounty timer (how long they’re marked as wanted) by 20%, 40%, or 60% depending on the card’s rank. Another card for unscrupulous players is ‘Wrecking Ball,’ which makes players deal more damage to workshop objects. Perfect for someone’s inner vandal.
There are also other perk cards out there for players just looking to survive the wastes. Some of these include:
- Fix It Upper: Players can repair workshop objects up to 200% of their health. A great way to dissuade those vandals with ‘Wrecking Ball.’
- Penetrator: Removes accuracy penalties in V.A.T.S. when aiming at enemy limbs behind cover.
- Lucky Break: Equipped armor may repair itself when hit. Lets players take the ‘hit it to make it work’ philosophy of repairing.
- Frayed Genes: Enhances the positive effects of a mutation while using its serum.
