After what felt like an eternity of avoiding spoilers and Let’s Plays, Dark Souls 3 is out today and people are dying to get their hands on From’s potential finale to the epic series. However some PC users are encountering a bug that is causing their games to crash.
According to PC Gamer the crash can occur when players pass the first bonfire or when they reach Firelink. The article goes on to says that the game can also crash at the High Wall and at the Cliffside bonfire in the Undead Settlement. Apparently, the problem has to do with lighting. The game crashes when the bonfire’s lighting meets the clothing textures on the player character. Basically any armor with long flowing cloth or dangling bits is likely to cause issues.
A report by Game Debate says that From already has a 1.1 patch in the works to fix the frame rate problems players are experiencing on PC with some low and high end graphics cards. No word on if this patch will be coming to consoles, which are suffering from their own frame rate problems. Now that this new problem has come to light the upcoming 1.1 patch will more than likely fix it, but until then there is a temporary workaround.
PC Gamer suggests turning the lighting to low, which causes a minimal difference to the look of the game, but the game doesn’t remember the change so you will have to make it every time you turn on the game.
As of right now Bandi-Namco is directing all players to their support team, hopefully the fix will be out soon.
Dark Souls 3 is out today for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
