The Danganronpa series is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and it looks like developer Spike Chunsoft has a lot in store for their fans to highlight the occasion. According to the Japanese magazine/website Famitsu, and later by Gematsu, the studio will begin hosting a monthly news broadcast which will pertain to numerous reveals and updates for the future of the franchise. According to the article, Spike Chunsoft themselves will unveil more information during the Famitsu and Dengeki Game Awards will is scheduled to take place on April 18.
These monthly news reports will talk about potential new games, merchandise, and other types of partnerships that Spike Chunsoft has been working on. However, it’s more than likely that the fans desire a fourth entry in the now-famous visual-novel series. Still, even if we don’t get that reveal, it’s still worth it to tune in as we don’t really get a lot of Danganronpa news these days. It would be interesting to see what direction the series takes since the creator of Danganronpa, Kazutaka Kodaka, left the company early last year.
For those who don’t know, Danganronpa is a visual novel game series that forces a group of people, usually high school students, into a killing mystery game where one of them is a potential murder. The series has seen three mainline entries, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. The series also produced a spin-off game, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls, which was a departure from the visual-novel game style the series was known for, instead using a third-person shooter mechanic.
While the series has a massive audience in its native Japan, it’s also found good amount of fans here in the United States, as well as other regions in the world. Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony was the most recent entry in the series to be released, which was in 2017. As we said earlier, it’s been a while since we heard anything about Danganronpa, so we’ll take what we can get for now. Still, our fingers are crossed for Danganronpa 4.
