Dance of Death: Du Lac and Fey is a Whitechapel Murder Mystery that Involves a Talking Dog

Does anyone remember the series Wishbone, about a dog that talks and takes on the role of Sherlock Holmes and solves mysteries? Well, so do developers Salix Games, as they too have created an odd combo of human and dog team up who solve mysteries in Dance of Death: Du Lac and Fey. Except, the human is the immortal knight Sir Lancelot, the dog is actually cursed sorceress Morgana Le Fey, and they’re solving murder mysteries in the London of 1888. They’re solving Jack the Ripper Cases, yet the trailer explains none of that.

What originally started as a Kickstarter back in October 2017, had actually failed after only getting about 50% of its goal. Though, Salix Games has since then expanded, getting team members from AAA Developer Companies such as Rocksteady and Lionheart. And from there, despite the failed kickstarter, they were able to get their game on the move.

It is an odd mix-up of Arthurian Legend characters being transformed into late-Victorian detectives, well… and a dog. But Salix Games does have a mission in mind with this game. They plan on having the game be a realistic to London’s “gritty – and often heinous – nature”. This includes actual locations from the Whitechapel murders, as well as being able to talk to and interact with Jack the Ripper’s last victim, Marky Kelly. And these locations, characters, accurate crime scenes, had all been fact checked by Victorian History experts. So, there’s a lot of research going into this game.

And a lot of talent as well. The game’s story is actually plotted by Philip Huxley, writer on Batman: Arkham Knight, and Jessica Saunders, a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit Winner. Not only that, but the voice actors are also a rather skilled group of people. Tudors and Penny Dreadful actress Perdita Weeks, takes on the role of the dog version of Morgana Le Fey, Dragon Age and Torchwood actor Gareth David-Lloyd plays Du Lac, and Black Mirror’s Alexandra Roach plays Mary Kelly. It won’t just be hearing a few lines from them either, it’s stated that all three characters will be playable.

Dance of Death: Du Lac and Fey will launch April 5, 2019 on PC. For more information about the game, check out their website, or the Steam page.
