Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, former creative director and lead writer for games such as GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Bully, has recently opened up a new studio named Absurd Ventures, according to Gamespot. This studio is set to be slightly different from other studios made by other game developers, because they plan to create new IPs that will be available on multiple platforms, meaning that their focus won’t just be on video games.
Going more in-depth about this studio, their work will consist of making worlds that will be able to be produced for animation, comic books, live-action and video games. In a press release from Houser (as reported by Gamespot) he states that they “are building Absurd Ventures to create new universes and to tell great stories, wherever and however, we can.”
While the company may still be just getting off the ground, the studio itself was founded and officially incorporated almost two full years ago, according to VGC. Even back then it was hinted that this company would not solely work with video games based on how the company was registered separately in the US as Absurd Ventures LLC as well as Absurd Ventures in Games LLC being registered on the same day.
Houser is a notable figure in the video game world, creating Rockstar games back in 1998 and writing, producing and voice acting with Rockstar games for over 20 years until he left Rockstar in 2020. Based on all of the work he has done in the past for many well-known and beloved franchises, it will be interesting to see where this new company will be headed. Although it is only in its infancy, Houser seems to have a lot of ambition as to where the company will be going, which we will only be able to see once the company is fully up and running.
