CD PROJEKT RED held a special Night City Wire today focused on the upcoming anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which is inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. The dev team revealed some more details about the anime and revealed what players can expect from the game’s latest update. Update 1.6 brings various fixes and improvements, as well as new Edgerunners-inspired content to the game – including new missions, clothing, and weapons. CD PROJEKT RED also talked about the future of the game and announced Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077’s first expansion which is set to release in 2023.
Not much was revealed by CD PROJEKT RED about Phantom Liberty. Based on the trailer, the story will focus on the New United States of America. During the Night City Wire, Game Director Gabriel Amatengelo said “we’re having a lot of fun with it. It’s a new kind of style of a plot we’re having fun with, new cast of characters, expanding on a district in Night City where it primarily takes place.” Phantom Liberty also sees the return of Johhny Silverhand as well as Keanu Reeves who played the character in the base game.
The biggest thing coming with update 1.6 is the introduction of transmog into the game. Players can now change the appearance of V’s outfit without changing the armor stats. Up to 6 outfits can be created using the pieces of clothing you own by accessing the wardrobe in any of V’s apartments and safehouses. You can then switch between them in the inventory panel. In addition, players can now go to Ripper Docs to change their appearance. There are new hairstyles for players to choose from.
CD PROJEKT RED also added its new game, Roach Race, a new mini-game that can be played using arcade machines located in Night City. There is a mobile version of the game available for Android and iOS.
The other big thing is content inspired by the Edgerunners anime. Players can get a new jacket and weapon from the anime. There are also secrets and easter eggs related to the anime that can be discovered in Night City.
Speaking about the anime, Cyberpunk Edgerunners Writer and Producer Bartosz Sztybor gave a rundown of what Edgerunners is all about. “Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a story about David Martinez, a teenage boy who dreams about being a netrunner. Unfortunately, one day, he loses everything,” Sztybor said. “But he gets one thing in return. This thing is a very powerful and dangerous cyberware who can change his life forever. Now the question is, will David take it and fulfill his dream or not?
For the full list of changes, check out the patch notes on the official website. One important thing to note that CD PROJEKT RED mentioned is that update 1.6 is the last one for the older generation of consoles. Going forward the updates and expansions, such as Phantom Liberty, will only be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
