Cyberpunk 2077 has finally gone gold this week. The game’s official Twitter account announced the good news on October 5th. The highly anticipated open-world action adventure has been in the works at CD Projekt Red since 2013. This is great news for fans who have been following the project from the start.
The term “going gold” means that the final version of the game has been created and is now ready to be copied and produced for the masses. However, this doesn’t mean that developers at CD Projekt Red have finished their job, as they will still be smoothing out bugs and glitches as much as possible. According to a staff email acquired by Bloomberg, the Polish developer told employees a mandatory six-day work week would be implemented before the game’s release in November. This caused controversy after CD Projekt Red bosses said last year they were hoping to avoid a crunch time before launch. Adam Badowski, the game director of Cyberpunk 2077 released a statement to Twitter, regarding the added crunch time. Polish labor law requires employers to be paid for overtime hours.
Cyberpunk 2077 introduces gamers to Night City, a futuristic metropolis “that sets new standards in terms of visuals, complexity and depth.” Users will play as a mercenary on the hunt for an implant that could be the key to immortality. The newest trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 was released during the NBA Playoffs. It stars actor Keanu Reeves (who plays Johnny Silverhand in the game) between clips of the game. The trailer heavily emphasizes the customization of the character players will use. However, it didn’t add much to what the old trailer had already shown fans, except a soundtrack with Billie Eilish.
This is the company’s latest product after releasing The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt in 2015, which saw a resurgence of popularity after Netflix’s The Witcher adaptation. It’s only right to wish for the game’s success, especially when developers are working hard to make it to the expected release date. Cyberpunk 2077 will be launched November 19th on Xbox One and Playstation 4 as well as next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and the Playstation 5.
