Momotype is a cute visual novel where you take care of a cute pet named Momo. The game was first released on Itch.io on Nov. 11, 2021, and was met with excellent reviews. Now, Momotype will soon be available on Steam for the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms. Momotype was developed by indie narrative designer Rimatoad and programmer Glazed Goose. Additionally, Momotype was published by Rimatoad.
The game takes place in the future at your fictional hometown called New Ribosome City. In the future, the world has suffered from a mysterious plague, and birth rates are at its lowest point in history due to the plague. However, another influence on the population’s low birth rates are monotypes. Monotypes are virtual pocket pets that appear Tamagotchi-lite. They became very popular in the 2100s before the plague and were created by the company you work for, Imitato Corp. The general population loved Monotypes because they were easier to take care of compared to actual children. As a result, many people turned to Monotypes to replace having children. To help bring about a solution to the country’s low birth rates, Imitato Corp. has launched a new line of pocket pets that can exist physically in the real world. This line of monotypes, each lovingly named Momo, are a part of a government-sponsored program, where all the employees within your company, including yourself, were selected to test it out for a week. Once you start taking care of Momo, you realize that this sentient creature may require more than its basic needs, perhaps it might even require the knowledge to become an all-powerful being.
According to Momotype‘s Steam page, the game features an original storyline and pixel graphic art to complement the game’s relaxing lo-fi soundtrack. There are also three different endings you can achieve, which last around 30 minutes of gameplay for each playthrough.
