After what seemed like an eternity, Cuphead fans were finally able to get their hands on the long awaited DLC, The Delicious Last Course, which released this past June. The turnout for the new content showed right away, as it managed to sell more than 1 million copies within a month of being available. Now, Studio MDHR has revealed that the DLC has eclipsed those sales numbers with a new statistic. Cuphead The Delicious Last Course has now sold more than 2 million units across all platforms, an astounding feat for a DLC/Expansion that has been out for less than half a year.
The studio dubbed this as a “double platinum” as it is more than 2 million. “We are so grateful to everyone who joined Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice on this new adventure” the developers stated in their tweet. Considering the burst of sales numbers, followed with the continued momentum, this achievement is not terribly surprising. The Delicious Last Course was in development for a few years and would’ve more than likely had a sooner release. However, following several delays, and the world wide events of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the expansion was pushed to its eventual release date.
Cuphead in general has also since become a global phenomenon. The title has spawned the aforementioned expansion, an animated Netflix adaptation, and is due for an actual physical release before the end of the year. Whatever Studio MDHR plans on doing next, it’ll have some mighty big shoes to fill, as their rope animation title has more than resonated with their fan base.
