Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course Hands On at Summer Game Fest: Play Days

One of the most anticipated titles, or in this case expansions, is Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to play. It was given a release date back in December, and a much wider look just yesterday, and at long last, we were able to get our hands on it at the Summer Game Fest: Play Days. Make no mistake, the game is just as hard, if not harder than the base game. We got our butts kicked.

We got to play as, you guessed it, the new and popular character, Miss Chalice, we encountered a mini boss rush mode, where we were demolished several times. The gameplay is essentially the same as the base title, with one of the exceptions being the new playable character. You’ll be able to dash, thank god, across the screen and make your way a little easier to void dangers, but make no mistake, it’s still very hard. The bosses are unforgiving, and at the same time, fair. If you lose it’s because you didn’t see the entire screen, and this expansion is no exception.

We lost count on how many times we didn’t make it through the mode, but also marveled at how smooth the gameplay was. The new levels, all of which pertain to ice-type levels, are bright, and also includes a floating ice wizard that uses a giant orange whale and mini ice minions to destroy your hopes and dreams. The art style is ever present, which is still astounding to look at all these years later and still play it as a bullet shooter game. It’s everything that you want in a Cuphead title. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long for everyone else to get their hands on it.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course will officially launch on June 30, for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
