A blog post on the Studio MDHR website recently announced the sad news that the upcoming Cuphead DLC, The Delicious Last Course, originally slated for release in 2019 will now be released in 2020. Like most content release delays, the reasoning was somewhat vague but noted that the team at MDHR wants to make sure the DLC “meets the meticulous level of care and quality we always strive for,” as well as being conscious of the team itself working to put it out. In order to satiate their fanbase who have been anxiously awaiting release since its initial announcement in June of last year, the team did provide a bite-sized AppeTEASER, as they call it, which you can check out below.
While the new trailer isn’t terribly long, it does give the slightest of glimpses into some of the gameplay awaiting in the DLC. Two of the new bosses are shown, a bearded mountain-man (quite literally it would seem), and a hostile take on Frosty the Snowman. To fight their bearded foe, Cuphead, Mugman, and newcomer Ms. Chalice will have to jump around on platforms slowly raising and lowering from the big bad boss’s bushy beard. As for the abominable snowman gone rogue, we catch a glimpse of his attack as he slams his fists down on the ground, causing ice spikes to pop up in front of him, forcing players to jump over or dash through the oncoming spikes.
While the DLC has a release date scheduled sometime in 2020, much like when it was slated for release this year, it has no concrete date as of yet. In addition to the team “spending the necessary time to get the recipe just right,” MDHR wants to avoid the dreaded industry crunch culture, instead “making things in a way that’s healthy and sustainable for our team,” reads the post. According to Chad Moldenhauer, one of the Co-Directors at Studio MDHR, “This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but we’re confident it’s one that will result in a higher quality experience that’s all the sweeter when it does arrive.”
