Seedi LLC recently published a crowd-funding campaign via Indiegogo for their new retro gaming system.
The company Seedi LLC officially launched their crowd-funding campaign for their Seedi console, which is “a game console that plays original discs from Sony PlayStation 1, Neo Geo CD, TurboGrafx CD, Sega CD, DOS PC, and more.” The system was created to give gamers chance to play their favorite retro titles on new tv sets and all in one place. Some companies offer remastered versions of classic games already such as Sony’s newest Okami HD and Nintendo’s port of old Mario arcade games coming to the Switch, but not all old titles are featured in the newer systems’ libraries; there are still games that remain in their original format and can only be played on their original consoles.
Using Seedi, gamers who still have their original cartridges, CDs, DVDs etc., will be able to play them using one system, and graphics will look better with the ‘optical drive’ technology. Some of Seedi’s other features include:
- Streaming from Youtube
- Streaming Audio Files
- HDMI features to allow CD/DVD burning
- Backing up and sharing emulated games
Using original cartridges such as those from the NES will require purchasing a Retrode Adapter that can be hooked up to Seedi without issue. Save files are stored on a virtual memory card, and gamers have the option to copy old PS1 save files onto the card as well. ROMs and other files can be copied over using Seedi’s built-in WiFi connection.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, the Seedi team also addressed potential legal issues the console may have, stating,
“We researched this early on and found that history has ruled in our favor (Sony v. Bleem, Sony v. Connectix, Sega v. Accolade). And in fact there are multiple NES, SNES, Sega, etc. clone consoles on the market, but we’ll be the first CD based system.”
On their official campaign, they also state “all software helping to run Seedi is either free open source or licensed by us for commercial use,” so backers can be sure the system operates within the confines of the law.
Seedi LLC offers live streams on their FaceBook page if potential backers want to see the product in use. Gamers interested in purchasing the system can contribute to the crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo, and systems are expected to be released around March 2018 once the $50,000 campaign goal is reached.
