The Bloober Team has released the first extended gameplay video for its sci-fi horror title known as Cronos: The New Dawn. The gameplay video is 10 minutes long, showcasing the eerie atmosphere of the game, intense combat, horrifying enemies, and survival mechanics.
The player can expect to play in one of two environments, Islands in the Mist and The Hospital. Islands in the Mist is designed to be similar to liminal spaces, with limited visibility, high tension, and a sense of encroaching danger. In contrast, The Hospital will be uncomfortably claustrophobic, invoking a sense of insanity with sterile corridors twisting into a seemingly inescapable labyrinth where echoes of a past haunt the player, according to a press release.
Despite being armed only by a pistol and a flashlight, the player possesses the ability to travel through time. Well, more specifically, the player will play as The Traveler, an agent of a mysterious group known as the “Collective” who emerges from a dystopian future to extract individuals before they die in the apocalypse. However, the twist is that there will be the cryptic logs of a mysterious predecessor who has already travelled to the past.
The environment of the game should be reminiscent of real-world locations with certain areas being inspired by the Kraków district of Nowa Huta, where Brutalist architecture is warped by reality-bending anomalies. The game will flip between the Krawkow setting of 1980s Poland and the decaying future.
As players explore the world, they will encounter monsters that are grotesque and nightmarish, called the Orphans, which let out a horrifying scream when they encounter them. Vaguely humanoid, undulating, with tentacles, and limping, the monsters are the incarnation of a sleep paralysis demon. In the gameplay video, they are also seen spitting green liquid, presumably some form of acid. The gameplay video also offers a glimpse of the Terror, one of the game’s bosses.
Chronos: The New Dawn seems to offer an incredibly atmospheric, dark, and deeply psychological experiment. The fear isn’t the result of jump scares but rather an eerie feeling that there’s always something around the creature. Set to release Fall 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®5, and PC via Steam as well as Epic.
