Joining the trio will be Krystina Arielle and Jared Goldstein, with Liam O’Brien serving as the Game Master. O’Brien is familiar with the Persona franchise as well. He voiced Akihiko Sanada in the original Persona 3 and its spinoffs, including its Persona 4 crossovers. O’Brien has also helmed several previous one-shots for Critical Role, including “The Night Before Critmas,” “The Song of Lorelai” and “The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood – Part III: The Golden Goose.” Making the one-shot of Persona 5 Tactica O’Brien’s second time being a Game Master in the realm of video games. No details on what game system is to be played, but the one-shot will probably not be using rules from Dungeons and Dragons.
In the contemporary era, video games and tabletop games showcase unprecedented levels of interaction. Both mediums target hobbyist gamers and have a strong social element, giving their audiences natural overlap. It’s become commonplace for video games to jump on the bandwagon and work with the RPG community.
A few months ago Baldur’s Gate 3 had a one-shot on High Rollers, another trendy D&D show. This is where the cast of Baldur’s Gate 3 played a version of Dungeons and Dragons for hours on live stream. Meanwhile, the position of Critical Role’s cast and frequent collaborators within the gaming industry allows for one-shots like this to continue. Just this year Critical Role has sponsored one-shots for Mortal Kombat 1 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Later in the month, they are continuing their partnership with Red Nose Day and will have Tony Hale and Sam Richardson join some of the cast in a special one-shot.
Critical Role’s Persona 5 Tactica one-shot will stream live on Twitch and YouTube on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 PT.
