It still doesn’t feel real to say, “Cristiano Ronaldo is a character in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves” but it’s true, there it is, and yes he’s a stance character too.
Even when he was revealed to be involved in City of the Wolves months ago many people assumed he’d be a guest announcer, or maybe a cameo in an ending or something, but no Cristiano Ronaldo is an actual playable character in the game, you can actually pick him and make him fight Terry Bogard and (eventually) Ken Masters or Chun-Li.
His full bio is also now available.
Sadly he’s not actually voiced by Cristiano Ronaldo, but the likeness is crazy enough having voice clips of Ronaldo himself calling out his attacks would probably be too much. As shown in the gameplay trailer, all of his moves are soccer (football for non-Americans) references and the end of his Super Art is a reference to the iconic pose he struck after scoring a goal. I don’t know too much about soccer so forgive me for not recognizing some of the references that no doubt go over my head, but I’m sure any of Ronaldo’s super fans can recognize them on the spot.
Ronaldo’s appearance in City of the Wolves has done wonders for Fatal Fury’s presence on social media. Now, social media does not translate into actual sales but it definitely can’t hurt, especially when his presence will attract more eyes on the game, the memes posted after Cristiano Ronaldo wins a Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves tournament will always garner a chuckle reaction. SNK games in general are incredibly popular in South America, this celebrity guest appearance for a sport that they also love will no doubt double the sales in, essentially, home turf.
