Another new Nintendo announcement for the year of 2019 has come, and this time it will be available to more than just Switch owners. For Creature in the Well, Flight School Studio has partnered up with Nintendo to bring another unique title along with many others that have been recently discussed. However, the mechanics of Creature in the Well just may stand out from the rest.
The premise of Creature in the Well is a “top down pinball inspired hack and slash dungeon crawler.” Yes, you read that correctly. The backstory to this is that players will take control as the last remaining “BOT-C unit” with the sole purpose of returning power to an ancient facility so that the city of Mirage is saved from an impending sandstorm. To do this, the BOT will have to delve into a mountain that is haunted by a Creature. Check out the announcement trailer to get a better idea of what this will look like:
In Creature in the Well, players will be able to upgrade and discover gear that will help them in their journey through the deep mountain that will contain eight dungeons. Each dungeon will have different sets of themes, secrets, and mechanics that will need to be examined carefully in order to move on. The obstacles in each dungeon are challenges that have been placed by the Creature to deter the BOT in achieving its goal.
From seeing the video above, a great way to describe the combat/mechanics is pinball with swords. The BOT can charge up orbs of energy that will bounce around the dungeon strategically to reactivate important parts of the facility. The developers have also shown off that each player will be able to customize their BOT through their playstyle, weapons, and clothing so that they can play their way.
Creature in the Well will be released this coming summer for the Nintendo Switch and on the Steam Store.
