Copyright Strikes Being Brought Down by Nintendo on a YouTuber Using and Reviewing Emulators

Over the years, it’s become apparent of how protect they are of their intellectual properties, most recently with Pocketpair and their surprise hit, Palworld. However, it’s not just developers that have seen legal action from Nintendo, as even content creators that have felt the wrath of legal action.

A channel by the name of Retro Game Corps, which reviews classic consoles and has over 500,000 subscribers has claimed to be being targeted by Nintendo. The head of the channel, Russ, showcases modern-day, third-party, hand-held devices like AYANEO, Anbernic and Retroid that are capable of emulating classic games from other consoles.

Russ took to Twitter and posted a video to his YouTube channel, stating in his video:

It does appear that my worst fears are true, and that I am being specifically targeted by Nintendo…My Wii U video was taken down and I received another copyright strike, even though this showcase video was no different than all of the tech demos and reviews I have made on this channel previously.

Russ goes on to say in the video that he is pondering on whether or not to file a counter-claim under the fair use laws. He says he says,”As the video was for educational use, transformative in nature, and had no [effect] on the market – it was a demonstration of a console no longer for sale”, but would then say he is,”reluctant to open that can of worms with a multi-billion dollar corporation, as their next step would be to file legal action”.

He also says this is his second strike on YouTube, which, if given a third in the next 90 days, could lead to his channel being banned.
